The 1st Ladies of Citra #LoveBeer

A while back The Hubz and I linked up with my beer pal, Michelle, at The Wellington Pub in Birmingham (affectionately known as The Welly) for a Saturday afternoon drinkie. She brought along Emma and Becky and I discovered they were all ‘Citra-heads’! By that I mean that these fine ladies were quaffing a beer brewed by the very fabulous Peterborough-based brewery, Oakham Ales, called simply Citra (a 4.2% ABV pale ale) that’s brewed just with the American-grown hop of the same name. What do they love about it so much? Read more to hear my #LoveBeer chat with them about beer and stuff!

Most beers are a combination of different hops to impart a complexity of flavour. But lots of breweries are just trying out beers using just one hop. And for many, the Citra hop in particular holds a mystical fascination. It’s one of the most fashionable hops on the block at  the moment and drinkers can’t seem to get enough of beers with Citra hop dancing all over it.  The strong gooseberry smell you get off many Citra beers is terrific. Couple that with the tart, dry and strong bitter finish and it’s a perfect combination for many drinkers.

SO NEXT TIME YOU SPOT A BEER THAT SCREAMS CITRA ON THE LABEL – WHY NOT TRY IT?
